Captain Frederick Courtney Selous D.S.O., 25th, formerly (Private) 25th, Royal Fusiliers. Killed in action on 4th January 1917, aged 65. Son of Frederick Lokes Selous and Ann Holgate Selous; husband of Gladys Maddy Selous, of Heatherside, Worplesdon. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frederick_Selous

CAPTAIN SELOUS' DEATH.

Fell Leading His Men in Attack.

The Press Association's special correspondent with the Expeditionary Force in German East Africa telegraphs, under date January 8th :- Capt. Selous, the great hunter, fell leading the attack on Bhobeho. Although wounded, he continued to encourage his men to advance till he fell shot dead. His grave, as he would wish, lies in the veldt under the shadow of a tamarind tree, with a few faithful comrades beside him. There he rests after a life crowded with high adventure, a splendid example of a man far beyond the fighting age, who sought his duty and did it from the start.

(Lancashire Daily Post, 13 January 1917)
